Tarr Steps
A magical place in a remote location on top of Exemoor. I kept Annie in the shot to try and give some scale to the bridge

Google says - "The Tarr Steps are a prehistoric clapper bridge across the River Barle in the Exmoor National Park, Somerset. They are located in a National Nature Reserve about 2.5 miles (4 km) south east of Withypool and 4 miles (6 km) north west of Dulverton.

A typical clapper bridge construction, the bridge possibly dates to around 1000 BC. The stone slabs weigh up to 5 tons apiece. According to local legend, they were placed by the devil to win a bet. The bridge is 180 feet (55 m) long and has 17 spans.[1] It has been designated byEnglish Heritage as a grade I listed building."

A great picture. I'm lucky enough to live in devon and get the chance to drive across not only Exmoor but also Dartmoor and Bodmin moor. please tell did you drive up or down Porlock hill or did you go in and out the easy way through Blackmoor gate

A lovely shot Chris, the bridge forming a smashing lead in, and then up the road and out he other side.
The inclusion of Annie certainly gives scale to the bridge as well as the two GU at the other end. Sharp with lovely Autumn colours, very well done, like it loads.

Bob - I went to school in Somerset from a very early age so I know Porlock well - not the easiest of hills to drive up.

Darn it! That George fella's nicked my words again so I'm just going to nod my head in agreement with his fine summation. A lovely picture Chris, well done.

I've tried on two separate visits to get a shot of this but came home with nothing that was worthy of showing so well done for this view. Annie does this some scale and the 2 others at the far end help with perspective. On top of this, you've got some fine autumn colours in this.

Pah! Porlock Hill is like a small dimple; my old granny could ride up there on her unicycle. Try Hardnott Pass in the Lakes; that's a proper hill

A fine image with lead from the rock edge and a person for foreground interest.

A great shot and taken at the right time of year.Annie looks like she is using a camera herself
ChrisH  [Nov 12, 2009 at 05:07 PM]
She was using my old Canon 300D, which I keep as a spare.

This is a lovely image Chris, your chosen pov spot on, the scale created by Annie and the others, together with the recession/perspective of the bridge adds oodles of depth, a nice river scene brightened by the autumn colours, I luv the view of the stoney riverbed through the clear rippled water,
all great stuff!
