Sunrise from Stella Point, Mount Kilimanjaro
This was taken at approx 7 am as I traversed from Gilmans point, past Stella point and up to Uhuru peak, Africas highest point at 5,895 metres. At this altitude there is over 50% less oxygen than there is at sea level, and, due to the lack of enough acclimitisation, your body begins to shut down and die. I was finding breathing very difficult and my heart sounded like it was going to rip itself from my chest! However for this view, it was worth it!

Beautiful colours in the sky Chris and with the sun just rising above the clouds it gives us some idea of the height you were at, but as you say, for this view the climb was worth it. under the circumstances it was going to be difficult to get light on the foreground shooting into the sun, but you still have some detail in the foreground snow which leads nicely through the image to the lovely sunrise. Nice one.

Amazing photo considering. Very difficult to get any impression of the height here, of course. Good for you for climbing with the 400D, too; I'd be looking to save every last gram. How was battery life in the cold(?)?

I know all about oxygen starvation and pumping hearts; I walk up the 6 floors of the Mad House at least twice a day

A fine image Chris and worth the effort.
