MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR

Welcome to our new monthly newsletter. We will be publishing one of these every month from now on. An idea of Ric's who has also offered to help with the editorial, otherwise I would not find the time to do it all on my own. I have added all full members to the mailing list but you have the chance to opt out if you do not wish to receive it. I have also put you all down as receiving HTML emails, otherwise you would receive only the boring text version. Again there is an option on each email to change that, just follow the link. I hope you all find it interesting and if you have any suggestions please let Ric or me know.
You may have noticed a slight change in the Logo and headings on the site. I have decided to drop the "ONLINE" part of the title. Although the domain will remain as thestudio-online, everyone seems to know it as THE STUDIO. Any complaints, pleas speak to the MANAGEMENT (She never listens to me so what hope have you got).

Focus on Imaging 2008
This annual exhibition will take place on February 24th to 27th 2008. It is reputed to be Europe's biggest Annual Imaging show and is open to Professionals and amateurs alike. For the past two years Canon have decided not to exhibit, a bit of a disappointment for those of us who own a Canon, however, I notice they are listed this year but not yet confirmed.
Nikon News
Nikon has announced the release of the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR, a new DX-NIKKOR zoom lens with built-in Silent Wave Motor and Vibration Reduction. This compact, lightweight and affordable 3x zoom NIKKOR lens offers remarkable versatility and covers the essential focal range of 18 to 55mm. When mounted on any DX-format Nikon digital SLR camera, the picture angle is equivalent to that produced by a 27 to 82.5mm focal length lens on a 35mm-format film camera or Nikon FX-format camera.

I have chosen one of my own images, not because I think it's really an image of the month, just to show you what I have in mind. I have decided to ask one of you to choose an image each month so expect an email from you at some point.

Interesting articles
There are often interesting debates that spring up now and again and I intend to print some of them here, not the entire thing of course, just a snip and then a link to the main article.
There is nothing to stop any of you from sending me something and starting it off in the newsletter, it can then continue in the forum.
New Members
Any new members during the month will be highlighted here. It might be nice to say hello to them in the forum before they do, sometimes it can be a little daunting when you first join a forum
Send this to a friend
If you know of someone who could be interested in the site, or just a keen photographer who might like the newsletter, please feel free to forward it to them. It may encourage them to join the Studio too. |
Knowledge Base
You may or may not know, that on the site we have a knowledge base, which you can find on the left menu. In there you will find several tutorials on various subjects from Portraits to Photoshop editing.
I did say, some time back, that I would try and write one every month, but like all good plans, events overtook me and it didn't happen. However, as from January I will be going for it and each month I will post a title and a short description with a link to the main tutorial. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.

Interview with a member
Ric has put forward an idea that we would ask a member a few questions, yet to be decided, about their life or photography, nothing personal of course, but it could be interesting to hear about their own path to photography, why they do it etc. There is no pressure on anyone but perhaps you might enjoy doing it and others could get as much pleasure out of reading it. It could also include what you like about the Studio and what you don't like
THINK ABOUT IT PLEASE |

Wales trip
After our successful meeting in Wales back in October. I would like to arrange at least one of these every year. I realise you all have other commitments and it isn't always possible to get away, unless your name is Alan, who seems to jet away every other week.
At the moment I am thinking of another weekend next Autumn, this time in The Lakes. Peter S and I had quite an interesting few days there at the beginning of November and I am sure everyone would enjoy the experience. If you have any views on the matter I would like to here them
